What is the Swatch × Audemars Piguet Royal Pop?
The Royal Pop is a collection of mechanical pocket watches that combines design details associated with Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak with the removable-watch concept of Swatch POP.
The octagonal bezel, eight hexagonal screws and patterned dial make the Royal Oak influence easy to recognise. Swatch adds its colourful approach and Bioceramic, which the brand describes as a composite combining ceramic with biosourced material. The watch must be wound manually using the crown; wearing it on the wrist does not wind it automatically.
A modern idea with historical roots
The pocket-watch format connects back to Audemars Piguet’s past. The brand had already produced a pocket-watch interpretation of the Royal Oak decades before this collaboration; the article’s original source references AP Chronicles and reference 5691 from 1979.
Royal Pop revisits that idea with different materials, brighter colours and a modular construction. The watch module can be removed from its outer frame, allowing it to be worn as a pocket watch, on a lanyard or with compatible wrist conversion accessories.
